For many New Yorkers, the appeal is simplicity: there is no medical exam and no lengthy health questionnaire. Eligible applicants can select a benefit amount between $5,000 and $25,000.

How the Two-Year Graded Death Benefit Works
Because this is guaranteed issue coverage, the policy includes a two-year graded death benefit period. If death occurs during the first two policy years from a non-accidental cause, the beneficiary generally receives the premiums paid plus an additional amount specified by the policy rather than the full face amount.
After the initial two-year period, the full face amount is payable for a covered death, subject to the terms, exclusions, and limitations of the policy.
