James Amato
James Amato
James Amato is a licensed Medicare advisor at Plan Medicare and a proud veteran of the United States Army. With more than 12 years of experience in financial services and insurance, James helps individuals, families, retirees, and veterans understand their Medicare options and make confident coverage decisions.
James has a special focus on helping U.S. veterans navigate Medicare alongside VA benefits, TRICARE, CHAMPVA, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Supplement plans, Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage, and Dual Special Needs Plans. His goal is to help each client understand how their benefits may work together and what coverage options may fit their doctors, prescriptions, budget, location, and healthcare needs.
Medicare Guidance for Veterans
Veterans often have unique Medicare questions. Some clients use VA benefits for certain care but still want to understand whether they need Medicare Part B, prescription drug coverage, a Medicare Advantage plan, or a Medicare Supplement plan. Others may have TRICARE, CHAMPVA, Medicaid, employer coverage, or other benefits that need to be coordinated carefully.
James helps veterans and their families review their options, understand potential coverage gaps, and make informed decisions based on their specific situation. His approach is clear, patient, and personal — shaped by his own experience in military service and his continued commitment to the veteran community.
James’s Medicare Expertise
James helps clients with:
- Medicare for U.S. veterans
- Medicare and VA benefits
- Medicare and TRICARE questions
- Medicare and CHAMPVA questions
- Medicare Advantage plans
- Medicare Supplement insurance, also known as Medigap
- Medicare Part D prescription drug plans
- Dual Special Needs Plans
- Medicaid coordination
- Medicare enrollment when turning 65
- Medicare annual plan reviews
- Provider networks, prescriptions, copays, premiums, and out-of-pocket costs
James takes time to explain how each option works so clients understand what they are enrolling in and how their coverage may support their healthcare needs.
Why Veterans Work With James
James understands that veterans do not always fit into a standard Medicare conversation. VA benefits, TRICARE, CHAMPVA, Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance can overlap in ways that are confusing if you are trying to figure it out alone.
As a veteran himself, James brings a service-first mindset to every conversation. He listens carefully, explains options in plain language, and helps clients compare plans without pressure. His work is focused on education, trust, and long-term support — not a generic call-center experience.
Local Medicare Advisor Serving New York and New Jersey
James is licensed in New York and New Jersey and serves clients from Plan Medicare’s offices in Melville and New York City. He helps clients throughout Long Island, New York City, New Jersey, and surrounding communities compare Medicare options and understand how their coverage may work with existing benefits.
Because Medicare plan availability, pricing, provider networks, prescription drug coverage, and extra benefits can vary by county and ZIP code, James helps clients review options based on where they live and the care they actually use.
No-Cost Medicare Guidance
There is no cost to work with James or Plan Medicare.
If you enroll in a plan through Plan Medicare, the agency may be compensated by the insurance carrier. Your premium is the same whether you work with Plan Medicare or go directly to the insurance company. James’s role is to help you understand your options clearly and choose coverage based on your needs.
Continuing to Serve the Veteran Community
James’s commitment to service continues beyond his time in the Army. He actively volunteers as a guardian with the Honor Flight Network, accompanying veterans on trips to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built in their honor. He also participates in Wreaths Across America and supports organizations such as the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and Samaritan’s Purse.
That same sense of service, integrity, and follow-through guides the way James works with Medicare clients and their families.
About James Outside of Medicare
A Long Island native, James studied Labor Relations at SUNY Old Westbury. He is a devoted husband and father who values family, faith, and community. Outside of work, he is involved in the PTA at his daughter’s school and is a regular member of his local church.
